30DOT Day 1: Black Coffee

Up until recently I could not drink a cup of coffee black. I’m all about the CoffeeMate creamer. Hazelnut, French Vanilla, or one of my favs, Coconut Creme. It made my coffee delicious and drinkable. For some reason I found I could drink coffee with just some half and half at diners or restaurants but never at home, at Starbucks, or at the office.

But then. Then I was introduced to a magical coffee company right by my house Colorado Coffee Merchant. One of my coworkers at Woodmen told me about it and said it was the best coffee she ever had. She’s not much of a coffee drinker (read: NOT a coffee drinker) so I was intrigued and decided to check it out. It didn’t hurt that it was literally a 3 minute drive from my house.

I ordered my normal iced coffee drink and surprisingly it didn’t have enough taste. It had too much cream and took much vanilla sweetner. So I decided to take a gamble and get a cup of regular coffee. And I drank it. With maybe a tiny bit of Stevia.

Then my roommate bought a pound of it whole bean. I ground some with my new coffee grinder (Thanks Taylor and Steph!!), brewed it, and LOVED it plain. I tried again the next day and the next day and I was hooked. I still can’t drink any other brand black but this is a good start into the world of grown up coffee.

Apparently they air roast their coffee which pulls the chaff off the bean. The chaff is what makes the coffee bitter, gives you the jitters, is full of acidity, and stains your teeth. I’m not sure why they everyone doesn’t roast their coffee like this but I know that I’m a convert!! I hope to never buy another bag of sub-premium coffee again.

If you’d like to buy your own bag or you’re just curious who they are check out their website here.

ps. Totally not a paid endorsement, I just really love their coffee.
