Armed with Truth

I am the worst at memorizing Scripture.

When we were kids we went to Awana every Wednesday during the school year and we’d have contests to see who could get the furthest in the book. I remember using my short term memory to hastily look at the verse and recite it to my leader (who was sometimes my mom). We had to memorize verses at our crazy school as well so my childhood knowledge of the Word was vast.

However, the older I got, the more I strayed from making a habit of memorization. I used the excuse that it was too legalistic, too much effort, who would I have to say it to anyway, no one was checking, blah blah blah.

This has continued well into my twenties, if I can admit that. Ashamedly so.

Until recently. You see, one of my genius brothers decided he’d had enough of the typical excuses for why people had a hard time memorizing Scripture. He also knows through his own story what a powerful impact knowing the Word can have on your every day actions, interactions, and relationships. Couple his desire to see us dive into these life-giving words with his expertise at finding creative ways to remember things plus a dash of a never-give-up entrepreneurial spirit and presto! you have ARMED WITH TRUTH.

I asked Mike a few questions about ARMED WITH TRUTH and he was gracious enough to answer them:

Tell us a little bit about yourself
I am twenty five years old, live in Colorado Springs now and love it. I volunteer with middle school students via a ministry called Young Life. I am part of an amazing community of young adults that is passionate about revealing God’s beauty, truth, and love to everyone around them. I have been trying entrepreneurial ventures since I was in 4th grade when I would sell comic books to my friends. Right now I am part of three business, Armed With Truth, Jakshop, and Missions Connex, with a couple new ideas in the hopper.

Why did you create Armed with Truth?

It was actually my friend/business partner Eric’s idea, but it came from talking about how hard it was to memorize scripture. We have since realized it is about much more than memorization. On average we have 1400 words running through our head every minute, and too often those words are torturing us. But what if we could leverage those words to give us life and lead us into His presence by declarations His of truth? With something like temporary tattoos you can literally cover yourself with God’s Word and be reminded and encouraged all the time.

We weren’t expecting this, but these tattoos are actually giving people a chance to share their faith since  people seem to ask about them due to how real they look. People have emailed us some pretty amazing stories.

How do you pick the specific Scriptures?

We have over 100 verses and each verse has some sort of specific truth. We have grouped these truths into packs about things like identity, overcoming fear, being like Christ, the nature of God the Father. Right now we have 10 different themes with 10 tattoos per theme.

What one person would make you freak out if you saw them wearing your tatts?

Probably President Obama. Seems like that would be kind of a big deal to have POTUS wearing the tatts. There have been a few “Christian Celebrities” with our tattoos. Stasi and John Eldredge have worn them, I gave a pack to Bob Goff (not sure if he rocked it or not) and there are unconfirmed reports of some of the Robertsons from Duck Dynasty wearing them.

Honestly though I would be most stoked to see some random person sitting next to me on a plane wearing one…that would be truly wild.

What’s next for Armed with Truth?

We are going to a youth pastor conference next month, maybe we will try to do some music festivals or conferences like Passion next year. My dream would be to do an Armed With Truth Ink Tour. Drive a van (maybe I can get the Shaggin Waggin from Dumb and Dumber) across the country and set up pop up temporary tattoo stations, I think I would meet some awesome people and hopefully get to tell people how amazing Jesus is. – Mike Mueller
